Cushing's Point Museum

The South Portland Historical Society operates a museum in the historic Cushing's Point House at Bug Light Park. The museum building was moved to this location, on the site of the former WWII Liberty shipyards, in 2009 and celebrated its grand opening in 2010.

Run primarily by a volunteer staff, the museum is open Mondays through Saturdays, from 10am to 4pm, from May through October, as well as on weekends in November and December. The museum offers free admission; donations are appreciated.

The historical society's archives and offices are located in the museum building and material in the archives may be accessed by appointment year round.

A gift shop is located on site featuring a variety of books, t-shirts and other gift items, as well as the South Portland Historical Society's collectible ornament series. Proceeds support the historical society and its museum.

We hope to see you soon!

Leave your mark in history with an engraved brick

The engraved brick walkway and patio at the museum is an ongoing fundraiser for the museum. You are offered the opportunity to support this effort by having your own brick engraved and installed for generations to come.

Bricks are offered in two sizes:

  • 4 x 8 inch. Cost for engraving is $150.

  • 8 x 8 inch. Cost for engraving is $250.

Your brick may be engraved with your name of choice - for example, your own name, the name of a beloved ancestor, a family member, or with the name of someone special you wish to recognize.

  • A 4 x 8 inch brick can accommodate up to three lines of engraving, with up to 18 characters per line, including spaces.

  • An 8 x 8 brick can accommodate up to six lines of engraving, with up to 18 characters per line, including spaces.

Should you wish to purchase a brick in honor of someone, the Society will notify the individual or a family member of your gift.
